Smallstep padded into the den and sat down, waiting for Lonestar. She didn't know what to feel. Joy that the old leader was alive, anger that her place as leader was being cut short, coriosity at where he had been all this time. She hoped that of those three feeling, the first was the most strongest in her.

Lonestar padded quietly in behind her and sat down. "Well." He said curling his tail over his paws silvery grey pelt glowing softly in the darkness of the den. "were you given the name smallstar by starclan before the clans left, or with them at some point even though no place has been found to speak with them. A dream perhaps?" He asked laying down now so he was a little more comfortable, he still hurt all over but for now he was ignoring it. " I imagine you have questions for me though."

The cat Oath has wanted me dead for some time. I saw her starting to get close to the camp, so I left. She would have delighted in killing anyone she came across, I figured it would be best to make myself scarce and lead her away. She took two of my lives on this occasion So i think she's happy enough with her work for now." He said watching Smallstep quietly.
"How is it possible for you to have your nine lives while I still breath?" He asked, troubled and confused by this. It was impossible for ac at to get their nine lives until the previous leader had truly died. He had not. "That cats that gave you your name and lives, what clan were they from? What did they smell like?"

Smallstep nodded slowly as Lonestar gave his explaination for his absence. She frowned as he questioned her lives. "I don't know." she replied. She thought for a while, trying to remember the answer to his last question. "Um, their pelts were dripping wet....they were well fed, and they smelt like wet fur." She looked up. "They were all from Riverclan." She glanced towards the new Riverclan territory, as if finally understanding.

Lonestar was a little taken aback, but only for a moment, he too turned his head to look to where the riverclan camp lay, somewhere off in the distance. "You are the Riverclan leader Smallstar. I'm sure the wet smell and look of the cats was just to try and give you another clue. Usually they are quiet dry..." He fell silent and looked to her. "I wasn't certain but I thought it might be like this. Starclan has found no worthy leader among the Riverclan cats that still live, but you have been chosen. Do you like water much? You'll have to get used to swimming and the taste of fish." He said softly, watching her for her reaction to this news. It was a shame she had always been a good Windclan cat. "If we ever meet again it will be as leaders of Different clans." He said looking at her quietly. "You have today to deal with this finding, say your good byes and then...you must go. You might not know where the camp is but I'm sure you can find it if you are so destined to lead." He said, feeling truly sorry for sounding so quick to have her gone, he just knew it would be easer for her this way, especially if she had some enmity towards him, or at least the same caution he was now showing her as a different clans leader she knew a lot about windclan. "This was your clan before but not any longer. Understand that and threat us no differently than you will Shadowclan or Thunderclan."He said sitting up stiffly.

Tears choked Smallstep's, now Smallstar again, throat as Lonestar spoke. "Yes, I loved the taste of fish when we were traveling here. I understand, I'll treat you like the same as I'll treat Swiftstar and Solsticestar." She ran out of the den, determined not to let Lonestar see her cry.

Lonestar sighed as she left in such a hurry. shaking his head he slowly lowered himself to lay on the moss bed, sore body protesting movement. He was sorry he had to be so abrupt, sorry to have to let her go. Starclan willed it so though, so he could not contradict them.
